Practice Philosophy

The philosophy of the Chiropractic Wellness Center is as follows:

  • We honor the ability of the body to heal.
  • Our purpose is to facilitate healing, not interfere with it.
  • Ultimately, our goal is to optimize one's wellbeing to 100% of their genetic potential.

In most dictionaries, Health is defined as a "State of being". This definition makes health a noun (people, place or thing). This is incorrect. In fact, health is a verb. It is an action.

Health is the ability of the body to adapt appropriately to an ever changing internal and external environment. Health is the 'ability to adapt' - an action, a verb.

To be healthy means your body has this ability to adapt. Health has nothing to do with how you feel. In fact, you may feel lousy when your body is adapting. However, as you will see, this may simply be a healing crisis.

Let me illustrate. Let's say you went out to eat and you got a case of food poisoning. The question I have for you is, what does your body do in order to get rid of the poison?

  • Vomit
  • Diarrhea
  • Fever

If these experiences are the normal responses to the poison, then are they a sign of sickness or a sign of health. In other words, are they signs of the body adapting properly or not?

I think you'll agree that they are normal responses - indicating your body is adapting appropriately - a sign of health.

I would go even further to say that a sign of sickness would be if your body failed to express these symptoms and your body harbored the poison to later develop into some form of chronic illness.

Yes, expressing symptoms, although very uncomfortable, is a sign of health. It is an appropriate adaptation to the internal environment of your body.

Our primary purpose is to facilitate healing, not interfere with it. To enhance the ability for adaptation, not suppress it with drugs. Why on Earth would you want to fight your body's healing capabilities? Why do you suppose it takes someone so long to recover from an ailment, such as the flu or a cold? The person has typically been treating their symptoms, thinking that will make them feel better. When in fact they're fighting their body's own healing, that is, interfering with your ability to adapt.

How Do we Adapt? With the Cycle of Health.

The Cycle of Health (COH) describes the interaction that takes place in the body in order for it to adapt. The COH consists of the capability of the body to perceive its environment, interpret it to some level and then adapt appropriately. This process, both internal and external to the body, is done via our nerve system.

Most of the time we are totally unaware of the Cycle of Health in action. We experience the COH as normal bodily functions.

If the need for adaptation includes fighting off a virus or bacteria, we refer to the expression of the symptoms associated with the adaptive process as a healing crisis. Examples would be fever, vomiting, diarrhea & runny nose. They're associated with detoxification and should not be confused with symptoms of the Cycle of Dis-Ease.

Cycle of Dis-Ease

The Cycle of Dis-Ease (COD) describes the interaction that takes place in the body when its ability to perceive its environment or respond appropriately to it, is compromised or interfered with. In otherwords, something is interfering with one or more of the three components of the COH (perception, processing & response).

This typically results when there is some sort of physical, chemical or emotional stress to the nervous system.

In the short term, we may experience this as abnormal bodily function (aka dysfunction), such as constipation, heart burn, allergies, headache, muscle tension, and more. The COD is perpetuated even more by these dysfunctions, creating a vicious cycle and leading to chronic disease. If the cycle is not broken by getting to the cause of the dysfunction (i.e. the interference to the COH), the COD will remain resulting in degenerative changes - leading to an eventual system breakdown (full blown disease).

In the long term, one will experience this bodily degeneration as some sort of chronic disease. Examples are cancer, heart disease, stroke, arthritis, cataracts, skin fragility and the like.

Cycle of Dis-Ease Principles:

  • The symptoms expressed as a result of the degenerative process are always last to appear, often rearing their ugly head days, weeks, months, years, and even decades after the cause of the Cycle of Dis-Ease occurred.

Restoration of Health

The Restoration of Health is a process which addresses the cause of the Cycle of Disease. As previously mentioned, the cause is either a physical, chemical or emotional block manifesting in the nerve system. Those who find their blocks and work at removing them, while maintaining a balanced life, will experience optimal health. That is, their ability to adapt will be optimized.

Restoration of Health Principles:

  • Facilitating the Cycle of Health will typically lead to an increase in the symptoms - indicating increased healing.
  • The majority of healing occurs after the symptoms are gone.
